Our boys matters too
MEC for Social Development in Mpumalanga, Ms Lindiwe Ntshalintshali says "our boys matters too", and as the department we vow to put the boy child first as well.
This year the Provincial Boy's Assembly took place at Gert- Sibande District Municipality, 28 January 2023 led by the department of Social Development in partnership with other stakeholders.
The role in which gender norms play in risk and vulnerability of individuals is often overlooked. In most societies, irrespective of economic, social or political status, women and girls as compared to men and boys face more restrictions on their sexuality and freedom of movement.
The Boys Assembly emanates from Boys Championing Change Programme under Social and Behaviour Change Compendium. The programme acknowledges that boys are equal members of society and they should not be left out in all social activities.
Provincial Boys’ Assembly Objectives:
- Create a safe space for boys to engage on issues negatively impacting on their behavior.
- Promote positive behavior change of beneficiaries.
- Encourage beneficiaries to champion change in their respective spaces.
- Provide support to beneficiaries beyond the event.
