MEC Lindiwe Ntshalintshali donates groceries to households in support of Minister Lindiwe Zulu during the handover of two houses in Ka-Hhoyi Village
The department continues to honour its obligation of ensuring access to appropriate social assistance for those unable to support themselves and their dependants.
In response to this obligation, the MEC for Social Development Ms Lindiwe Ntshalintshali has yesterday, the 30th August 2021 joined the Minister for Social Development Ms Lindiwe Zulu at an invitation by the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Collen Mashawana Foundation to Ka-Hhoyi Village in the Nkomazi Municipality.
The event was meant to handover two houses to two families in the area. The two families also received groceries and furniture.
The team proceeded to Sophungane Combined School where they presented 100 learners with school shoes. These learners were poor families
The event started at the Odiweni Tribal Authority where they were welcomed by the local Chief Mr S Ngomane who expressed his appreciation for the public-private partnership that was practically yielding results. During her address, the Minister pointed out that there was a need for government and the private sector to collectively deal with the challenges confronting communities. Mr Collen Mashawama and Mr Sello Hatang, CEO of the Nelson Mandela Foundation,
both concurred with the Minister with regards to working closely and in partnership.
In the afternoon the MEC and the Minister visited the Masisukumeni Women Crisis Centre, which renders services to survivors of GBV and human trafficking in Tonga. This centre is one of the many services supported and funded by the department.
Dignity packs in support of the victims and other service users were donated as part of the programme.
